The national flower of Belize is the Black Orchid (Encyclia Cocheeata). There are approximately 250 species of orchids in Belize. You will find here a lot of Medicinal Plants also such as At Ix Chel Farm, the Panti Medicinal Trail winds through a living display of arboreal and herbal remedies in the second-growth forest. Belize is estimated to have roughly 4,000 species of native flowering plants (Angiosperms) of which 2,500 are dicots (Dwyer and Spellman 1981) and 1,500 are monocots (Spellman et al. 1975).
There are five cat species in Belize. The largest, the jaguar was among the most revered animal of the ancient Maya and even today, commands great respect among Belizeans. The other four native cats of Belize are the puma, ocelot, margay and the jaguarundi. You will also find variety of turtles, lizards, crocodiles and birds.
48. The Atolls
Most of Belize’s atolls and outer cayes are only easily reached by boat, and this remoteness, along with the spectacular beaches and high class diving, makes them all the more attractive to visit and relaxed by the ocean. Diving in these areas offers nearly virgin reefs to explore. Unlike Ambergris caye, less human impact has helped protect the coral and enchanted life just below the water’s exterior of the three atolls and outer cayes. Dolphins, manta rays, and manatees are usually sighted here.
49. Toledo district
The Toledo district is usually considered as Belize’s last frontier, is home to numerous Mayan sites, dusty open savannah, orange groves, and large river networks and caves galore. It is one of the fabulous parts of the country and much less visited than the west and east. It usually gets more rain than other places of Belize making it lush with intact rainforests, abundant with citrus plantations, paddy fields and home to remote Mayan sites, such as Lubaantun – where the famous ‘Crystal Skull’ was found – and Nil Li Punit (nim-lee-poo-nit), which has 25 original standing carved monuments including the longest in Belize at some 60 feet of length.
50. River tubing
It is well said about this place that there is nothing like river-tubing in Belize. Here you can walk your tube in the course of the steamy jungle until you get to the jumping in point from where your journey commence. Here, you simply sit in your tube and float down the river with nothing but the sounds of the forest surrounding you, through huge caverns with stalactites looming down at you out of the dark.
