In case, if you get sick during the trip, your insurance company will cover emergency situations that require upfront payments.

Compare plans offered by an insurance company and travel suppliers. Now travel suppliers offer their own protection plans that can cover cancellations or medical issues. It is a common thing for cruise lines or tours. If you do not want to bother yourself with research and finding an insurance agent, the easiest thing to do is to include a protection plan into your booking. As a travel agent, I always remind about this option to my clients. How it works? For example, I book a cruise for you. When calculating total cost it offers to add a protection plan. All I need is to confirm with you, what plan you are interested in and click the required button. Payment for cruise line will include the plan. It does not work that easy with those, who have some special requests. Then, it is better to get insurance from an insurance agent. Travel suppliers offer only general plans that are suitable for common cases and protections.

  1. When going on holiday, especially if it is your one break of the year it’s vitally important you flight is on time and running as it should. If your flight were to be cancelled it could prove inconvenient with travel insurance and disastrous without. Most comprehensive travel insurance policies will cover you if your flight is cancelled due to bad weather, airport strikes or any other failure on the airlines behalf. They will in most cases do their best to get you on the next possible flight.

Most travel insurance policies cover you for the loss or delay of your luggage up to a certain monetary value, there is a limit on this but it is dependent on the value of the possessions you are taking. The insurance will cover you for delayed as well as lost luggage but only after 6 days of the luggage being delayed, after that time all of the money you have used to purchase cloths and other essentials will be reimbursed. It is important you are careful with your luggage as insurance providers will not pay out if you have been unnecessarily careless with your belongings, always keep passports, bank cards and any other important documents in a safe and memorable place as these can be particularly difficult to replace when away from home.

Cancellations are not always the fault of the tour operator or airline you are flying with, sometimes the unexpected can happen to you which means that regrettably you have to cancel your holiday. Most policies cover you for illness, death of a close family member and redundancy, however it is very important you check the policy thoroughly to ensure you are covered for your specific needs, for example the definition of what your insurance company claims to be a close family member might be different to your interpretation of that.

Should the worst happen and you become sick or injured whilst you are away from home if you are without travel insurance you can be left with not only that broken leg but a very hefty medical bill on top of that. Everything from the ride in the ambulance to the equipment used to help you will be charged and the bill can run into tens of thousands of pounds. Most adequate travel insurance policies have an extensive medical cover clause that will include costs of up to £2 million.
